Distinguishing Characteristics

• Trigger hairs (coming off the reproductive column at the center top of the flower) are very long and twisted together.
   
• Variety picta is distinguishable from variety bicornuta by the distinctive veins in the throat of the corolla. Both varieties may occur on Mather Field. 

Habitat(s)

• Vernal pools. 

Additional Information

• Native. Endemic to vernal pools. Also occurs in southern Oregon, southwest Idaho, and western Nevada.
   
• Flowering time: April - June.
